Not many people are a fan of broccoli. But we give you a very important reason to add this calciferous vegetable to your diet. According to a study by Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI), broccoli has chemo-protective properties that can help you to lower your risk of breast cancer. Broccoli contains a natural compound that was found to lower the risk of cancer in women who recently underwent hormone replacement therapy.

The photochemical not only plays a key role in preventing breast cancer but also aids in the treatment by reducing the blood levels of tumour proteins that are elevated in case of cancer. When breast cancer cells start to develop, it becomes difficult to kill them due to their structure that resembles stem cell-like properties. The team from University of Missouri-Columbia used a natural compound, luteolin, that has anti-tumor effects, to counter the effects of cancerous cells. Broccoli is a natural source of luteloin and hence, helps in lowering the risk of cancer. Hence, it is a good idea to add broccoli to your diet.
Here are few simple tips to prepare this vegetable in a healthy way:
  • Curry: You can add boiled potatoes and bell peppers to boiled broccoli. Sauté onions, tomatoes and spices and the boiled veggies and cook. Add salt, chilli powder and some water and allow it to cook.
  • Salads: Be it raw or steamed broccoli, it goes well with any main course as a side-dish or as a starter.
  • Soups: Boil a cup of broccoli and puree it. In boil the broccoli puree, add salt and allow it to cook for few minutes. You can add some water to fix the consistency.
